Hello fellow print marketing enthusiasts. On Jan 22, 2017 some key changes took place at the United States Postal Service and we wanted to go over some of those changes and provide a quick guide so you stay informed.
Metered v Stamped Mail
To begin with postage on the first ounce of stamped letters retail is increasing to $.49 from $.47. The exception to this change is metered mail, which is decreasing on the first ounce from $.465 to $.46.
USPS Marketing Mail
Another interesting change taking effect is the rebranding of “Standard Mail” to “USPS Marketing Mail.” This change is an effort to better communicate to mailers how this mail can be used. The change will occur in phases with indicias and postage markings changing in 2018 at the earliest.
Single Price for Presorted Letters up to 3.5oz
In addition to the aforementioned changes happening to First Class Mail and USPS Marketing Mail, you will now be able to mail commercial presorted mail up to a maximum weight of 3.5 ounces for the same rate including First Class Mail.
